Parking lot plowed with ice base but well sanded. Lots of room with only 4 cars at start and finish of my hike to the peak. |

Ice - Blue, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow/Ice - Postholes |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Easy crossings of one hop or so over one open and 2 or 3 frozen runoff minor streams. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
With permission from LELT, cut back one goosefoot maple and one hemlock hanging into trail. Trail solid and snowshoe groomed up to Sue's way split. Above there, the steeper incline strongly suggests microspikes or crampons, which worked well for me. Several people passed me with snowshoes on, which were an advantage especially near the top, where I postholed a few places just off the center of the trail. Beautiful sunny day, comfortable temps. in the 20s, with great views to the Whites! |

| Comments: |
Great hike! Great trail conditions with some traction device recommended. The side trail to Needle's Eye had not yet been broken out at midafternoon. Rest of the Bald Peak Trail to the summit well broken, solid bottom half but looser with a post hole here and there near the top. More trail maps needed in the box at start of trail. |
