Hit the trail just before a big hiking group. We wore micro-spikes. The trail was not well consolidated on the ascent, and was worse on the decent thanks to all the traffic. There was the beginning of a hard pack monorail, but it got beat almost back into powder. Deep powder base, plenty of postholing, especially on the way down. We made it up and down in spikes, but snowshoes are the correct choice until it gets a chance to consolidate. |
