Ski trails on Sugarloaf are well groomed and make for easy walking. BIG thanks to Roddy and the rest of the Sugarloaf ski patrol for allowing me to travel above the highest lift (yes, they can deny access). From the summit of Sugarloaf, I dropped down the spur trail to the AT and then began a long slog over to Spaulding. No one had been on that stretch of trail in weeks, and it showed. Deep fir traps and navigation challenges abounded, but the recent rain left a crust of ice that remained stable in spots. For those who chase after these peaks in the coming days, I've left a discernible track all the way to Spaulding's summit from the Sugarloaf spur trail. Good luck! |
