Comments: Well we had a great weekend out at South Branch Bunkhouse. We hiked in on 1/18 the 11 miles to the bunkhouse and stayed there. There is a service available to drop sleds or even people at the south branch junction around 8.8miles in with 2.2 miles of sled pulling. We walked and had 3 sleds dropped for us. 1/19 was prett brisk and the ranger told Guy that no one has touched the Travelers loop since the last storm.., well we knew what we were getting into. So we set off and breaking trail the whole way. There was at least I would say 4-12” at timea and maybe even more. We made it to the ledges and wow were they sketchy. The snow had some hard pack on the top but everything under that was soft cold powder that did not pck or grip well. All exposed rocks were pretty wind blown too. Well we went for the top of at least North Traveler... well false peak upon false peak we left at 10am and made it there by 2pm! Lots of route finding too as above treeline it was fairgame everywhere. Of course not much thinking on the way down.., 1:30 hours later we were back at the beginning and arange Russ got the wood stove going for us! It was nice of him. We got water... stuffed ourselves and walked the 11 miles in the snow storm on 1/20. Great time out in the woods for sure! :)
