| Comments: |
The lower part of the Cadillac South Ridge Trail and most of Eagles Crag Trail had a lot of slick ice floes. Above the trees along the ridge, it was a roughly even mix of dry rock, black and blue ice, and frozen snow. On the last 1/2 mile to the top, which was mostly in the trees, there was a lot of frozen snow, some of which was postholed. There was an ice floe before the service road crossing near the top that was a little tricky to cross. On the summit itself, there was more frozen snow, with some bare rock and pavement in the mix.
This was one of my favorite hikes up Cadillac Mountain- trail conditions were good, the weather was cold and crisp, the wind was mild, and the views from the summit and off the ridge were excellent. To top it all off, I didn’t see anyone else the entire time. |
