Comments
Comments: Loved it! Stayed the night before at the Big Moose Inn and that included breakfast at 5 am, a freshly made Big Moose Egg Sandwich. Tongue Pond Gate House opens at 6 am and I was about the 6th car in line. Tote Road was in good condition but narrow and max speed limit 20mph. Of course I saw a moose in the road. Trails are well blazed and good signs with milage information. Coe Slide was dry enough and I had no issues with my grippy trail runners. I enjoyed clear sky and big vistas all day. Between Brothers trail has dried out nicely. From the upper Coe intersection on the Marston Trail, water is running down the rocky steep section but rocks are dry. I easily followed the bushwhack "path" to Fort. A few new orange ribbons marked the trail a few places, the two big blowdown sections already have herd paths trampled through them. I spend a good amount of time at Fort hunting for the airplane crash site. I circled the summit in the trees found some odd rock cairns but no luck. I met a fellow from UNH headed to Fort on my return to North Brother, only person I saw that day. After my hike I spend a good hour in the sun and a few cold minutes in the river at Ledge Falls. I met up with Bryan and Zachary they graciously shared their campsite with me (I did bring supper).
