The road had not been plowed since the storm last week and we went down both Saturday and Sunday (AWD Toyota Highlander with snow tires). Got to mile 12 and the road uphill towards a “lot†hadn’t been plowed. Cleared space on side of road to stay out of plows way and parked. Came down Sunday and they were plowing the road. |

One minor crossing after going around White Cap Pond but snow bridge down street was fine. Also was shallow enough to walk across if necessary. |

Logging road from Coburn Gore and open-woods bushwhacking
Did this one with Colin and Cesar. There has been extensive logging between the small side road at mile 12 by White Cap Pond up to the boundary swath. Deep snow but navigation and route finding couldn’t have been easier. Wide open the entire way. Shoot for about 1/4 mile to south end of the pond and follow the stream up to the pond. Work your way around the west side to the north end of the pond in some open woods. Then pretty much head straight towards the summit in open flat fields. As you get near the spot where you’ll start climbing head to the left of the bump that’s about 1/2 mile to the left of the summit - you’ll see open woods all the way to the ridge. You’ll also see some open woods that look like they go directly to the summit but once we were on the swath near where they would have come out we couldn’t see any obvious connection. Despite the deep snow it had to be one of the most enjoyable Winter NEHH hikes so far. |
