Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Elephant Mountain, ME
Trails
Trails: Elephant Mountain Road, bushwhack
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, March 4, 2018
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: With logging activity in the area, the road is plowed all the way to summer TH. No trucks today as it was Sunday. We made it 1 mile up the road from South Arm Rd, before hitting a steep rutted section that we did not have the clearance to pass - we parked below that and walked the remaining 2 miles to the start of the BW. A higher clearance vehicle could make it further.

Comments
Comments: Road walk was mostly frozen mud and some ice on the way in. Fine for bare booting. Snow was pretty firm and supportive making snowshoes a perfect choice for an nice walk in the woods. Surprised to find a set of tracks from a pair of hikers who had been here yesterday- it followed a nice line in open woods the whole way, swinging wide and further east from the typical routes - instead of heading right for the summit it went up to col east of the summit before swinging west and approaching along the ridge, avoiding the thick for waves. Also surprised to run into 2 others, Mike and Pete, coming up behind us. Busy day on Elephant Mtn!
