Trails: Bushwhacked, slash, logging roads
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, January 21, 2018
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at the top of the logging road that turns right off Big Island Rd/Kennebago River Rd at mile marker 12 heading south from Coburn Gore (we explored going further to see if the plowing goes as far as Wiggle Brook - it does not.) It’s only plowed to about 13 miles in. Spoke to Border Patrol (Rangeley) on Friday and they said roads from the south are plowed up to Cupsuptic Pond and Wiggle Brook if you want to approach these peaks that way - but the plowed roads from the north and south do not meet in the middle. They also advised hikers to give them a heads up before heading in to those peaks as they can advise on access; and they check out any private vehicles on those roads anyways due to the proximity with the border.

Comments
Comments: Took similar route to Alan (yesterday’s report) but added on Boundary. After the steep climb to the ridge went to NKD first then back to White Cap. Tons of moose sign on White Cap and we accidentally startled a pair of moose out of their bed. From the summit we bushwhacked down to Dennison Bog and picked up the border slash there. Out and back to Boundary, then bushwhacked back to White Cap Pond and picked up a logging road that brought us right back to the car.
A little fresh powder on top of crust. We broke through regularly but didn’t sink too deep. Pleased to get these 3 in such an efficient loop. NKD jar was easy to open but needs new notebook. No luck getting canisters open on White Cap or Boundary.
