We had no idea what to expect after the most recent storm which dumped a new 14 inches of snow on the trails but were pleasantly surprised to find a perfect snowshoe track with mostly packed powder. Just a couple of inches of new snow from last night. The steep part of the Firewarden's trail had some blue ice but still easy enough to negotiate with the MSR snowshoes. It lightly snowed all day and at first there were no views from the summits but they both cleared long enough to see the beautiful Lake Flagstaff. Saw a group of Canadians coming up as we were descending. They said that their friends had packed out the trail yesterday. Much gratitude for that! Stratton Pond road was packed from snowmobiles. A very nice day to get these two peaks for Slow and Steady. |
