Date of Hike: Saturday, June 7, 2014
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at end of Bog Road at Gate, plenty of room for cars (I was first car and only one more was there when I returned). Trailhead on 113 had 8 cars in it and requires a parking pass. Bog Road is in good condition.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All numerous brook crossings were rock hop-able.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Going up from Bog Road on Caribou Trail, close to the Wilderness Boundary recent beech blow down across trail and no herd path established. Large Pine blow down just before reaching Morrison Brook. Looked like water bars on Mud Brook Trail were recently cleared and it is nice that stone steps are good at many brook crossings.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Spheres of just hacked black flies were hovering above every stream and brook crossing. Thank goodness they were young and that there seemed to be a soft breeze to keep the more mature bugs away.

Comments
Comments: I started at Bog Road trailhead and went all the way up and over on Caribou Trail and then up Mud Brook Trail and back down Caribou to Bog Road Trailhead. The trails beginning on 113 appear well used and even without blazes (stupid Wilderness Area rules) the trails were easy to follow. Kess Falls on the west side of the Caribou Trail were lovely and I was glad I decided to climb down to its base, the water was crystal clear and deep. I did hunt for the old shelter site, not convinced I found it since two places looked like good campsites and had evidence of trees cut some long time ago. The summit ledges were wonderful and I choose a south facing private ledge off the trail to enjoy a long comfortable lunch. Just the tipy top of Mnt Washington was in and out of the clouds and all the rest was clear and the vista grand. Hooray sunshine.
