Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Mud brook - two crossings both easy on rocks; Caribou - there are 6 crossings of Morrison Brook which was running as high as I've ever seen, Only one could be crossed on rocks without getting feet wet - most had rocks submerged under a couple of inches under water, crossing closest to the trailhead required submerging boots under water even when using rocks; may be some options upstream to keep a bit drier but with only a few tenths to go I just plowed through. Water level should be back down in a day or so.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Mud brook - one large 30+ inch tree trunk across trail about a mile in that you'll need to skirt around to the left but watch the mud!; Caribou - two large stepovers just outside the wilderness boundary, a smaller 6-8 inch stepover about a mile in from the trailhead, a 6-8 inch walkunder that will cause some problems once the small sapling holding it up gives in; lots of step overs in the wilderness area as usual, some of the larger one have been cut back to make getting over easier.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Lots out on the trails today of all shapes and sizes, smaller dogs will possibly need help getting across some stream crossings on Caribou until the water goes down; helped owners carry a little boxer across several today. Small dogs might also need a boost up a ledge or two.
Bugs
Bugs: Argh! After months of hiking without seeing them they were back with a vengeance, some small little critters that gathered around every time I stopped. Ended up getting a few bites.

Comments
Comments: Another great day in the mountains - sunny but with some interesting cloud formations over the Royces, Carters and Pressies. Ran across many folks out enjoying the day. Up Mud Brook and down Caribou - Mud Brook today lived up to its name countless long stretches of trail with running water spaced between long stretches of mud - some you could skirt around, other just had to plunge through and try to find the shallow parts. Upper part of Caribou also had a lot of running water and mud; sank to the tops of my boots more than once. A few patches of mud down low below the wilderness boundary. Ledges were nice and dry but some wet rock on mud brook heading down off Caribou and the rocks at a few of the crossings of Morrison brook were slick and required some care.
