I did practically the same hike as Pepper and Me. I camped at the trailhead for the Notch Trail. Started at 5:30 AM, went thru Mahoosuc Notch from 6:30 to 7:45. A "cool" place with ice and hard packed snow down deep in the holes under the boulders. A couple of places you could step on the ice. A really amazing place. My 3rd time there. Up to Mahoosuc Arm by 9:30. Saw 2 Sobo's there. At the outlet of Speck Pond by 10:00 where I took a long snack break and relaxed from the difficult climb. Checked out Speck Pond Campsite, no one there at the time. Then headed down the Speck Pond Trail. Back at my pickup at 1 PM. I had been to the Mahoosuc Notch about 20 years ago, it was time to get back there. A great day for a great hike. |
