Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Very large lot in Grafton State Park for Old Speck and Baldpate trailheads. Today state parks were free for Maine residents.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The brook crossings low on the Old Speck Trail were easy rock hops.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail in good condition. Some sections had a lot of roots. I recall only two blow downs that had been removed. No remaining obstructions on the trail. Nice stepping stones across one muddy section.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Did not see any dogs. The Eyebrow Trail not recommended for dogs due to the steep ledges. Old Speck and Mahoosuc Trails should be fine for dogs although upper sections have little to no water depending on conditions.
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies were bothersome when not moving.

Comments
Comments: The Eyebrow Trail has cables and rungs to aid hikers over steep areas and watery ledges. The Eyebrow Trail is a nice ascent route because of nice viewpoints. The lower section of the Old Speck Trail is good for descent with a nice cascade similar to that of Beaver Brook on Moosilauke with perhaps less water. Some of the ledges on the Old Speck Trail may be difficult when wet.
There are ups and downs on the ridge leading up the mountain.
The tower at the summit allow for a 360 degree view.
Saw many hikers today including Dan the caretaker of Speck Pond campsite.
