| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked at the Ledges Trailhead, no fee. It does cost to park in the big lot by the swimming area. Mass residents 62 and over should look into the reasonably priced lifetime membership (I plan to). Nice big lot at the ledges. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Excellent signage from the DRC. Nice bridge. Good boardwalks. Thank you. Strategically placed maps from time to time. Thanks! |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Should be good. Remember, it's a state forest, so there are regulations. Also, have enough water and watch those ledges. |
|
| Bugs: |
A few mosquitoes. |
|
| Lost and Found: |
Worn out children's sneakers with Batman design stuck in a tree along the Crocker pond trail a few minutes from the parking area. |

Huge variety on this one. There is actually a short but steep scramble up to the ledges. The path splits right before the climb. If you are hiking, taking a left. If you have your ropes, your footwear, carrabiners, etc go straight and have fun! Nice view of Wachuesett from here. After enjoying the view, we continued on. This section is part of the Midstate Trail and we had a good conversation with a thruhiker, hope he finished up safely and had a good time. There are a few more views; obstructed by trees, but they're of the Leominster/Fitchburg landfill, so no big deal. Trail descends and you take a right onto the Crocker Pond Trail. It crosses rt 31 and continues through a beautiful wet area. A lot of Mtn Laurel still in bloom. Took us to the swimming area (bathrooms are clean and open!). We picked up the Wolf Rock Trail, which passes more ponds. There is a Labyrinth, a little more freeform than a traditional one. It was fun. We came out on Rocky Pond Road, which took us to Rocky Pond parking, a short road walk from the car. But there is a winding trail here through the woods, Sawyer's Trail, so no road walk is necessary. Lots of laurel here.
A lot of small, beautiful trails! |
