What a mish-mash of conditions! Scary ice on some steep sections, and microspikes were barely acceptable in those spots, particularly on the descent. Otherwise, microspikes would be fine and even bare boots on some of the places with good sun exposure (parts of Bicentennial). Microspikes are recommended on most of the icy trails, and very careful maneuvering in the steep areas with solid ice. We saw lots of skid marks on the ice, even from people with traction. We saw some with no traction and they were envious of our microspikes and wished they had them. I mentioned that they were probably cheaper than their emergency co-pay. |
