Comments
Comments: All the trails I used were well marked and easy to follow. The foliage was really starting to show, particularly along the middle and upper sections of the Hopper Trail and along the AT between Greylock and Saddle Ball. The AT from the Cheshire Harbor Trail junction to the summit of Saddle Ball (wooded and viewless) was a very pleasant walk through shady spruce woods that can't be found in most of the Commonwealth. I will say, though, that if you do the hike over to Saddle Ball, don't do what I did and bushwhack from its summit to Rockwell Rd- by looking at a map, it may seem like you can cut off a lot of time and distance, but the going wasn't that simple- the upper half of the bushwhack was very steep and involved going through nasty, thick spruce woods, whereas the lower half was a little more open and not as steep, but the undergrowth was equally annoying. Probably took as long or longer to do the 'whack than it would have to take the trail route (AT to Jones Nose Trail to CCC Dynamite Trail) despite the latter being considerably longer distance-wise.
