| Comments: |
We did an overnight Sunday-Monday (1/4-1/5); with downpours and heavy rain on Sunday we camped at Wilbur's Clearing the first night; conditions deteriorated Sunday night as a cold front approached with winds gusting upwards of 70-80 mph. After breaking camp we continued the approximately 10 miles on Sunday to the summit of Mount Williams and Mount Greylock under blustery conditions and snow showers; approximately 45mph winds the wind chill was approximately -20F with a high around 5 degrees at the summit of Mount Greylock. As we gained elevation snow depth was approximately 2-4" with some deeper drifts.
Due to the downpours on Sunday a lot of the trails flash-froze with 2-3" of ice present along most of the trail. Some type of traction is definitely recommended. |
